Course of cupping therapy

- Preparing the flasks and the client: the masseur disinfects the flasks and the client is ready for the massage.

- Creating a vacuum: The flasks are placed on the skin and a vacuum is created, usually with a pump or fire.
- Moving the flasks: The massage therapist moves the flasks over the client’s skin, maintaining some pressure and monitoring the client’s response.

When it is not suitable to go for a massage
- Acute infections: If you have an acute infection, such as the flu, cold, or a skin infection, it is not advisable to go for a massage. It could worsen your existing health issues and spread the infection to the therapist or other clients.
- Bone and joint injuries: If you have a recent bone or joint injury, you should wait until it heals and consult with a doctor before continuing with massages. Massages can cause further damage.
- Fever: If you have a fever, elevated body temperature, or an infectious disease, you should not go for a massage, as it could worsen your symptoms and spread the infection.
- Pregnancy with complications: During pregnancy, you need to be cautious with massages, especially if there are complications. It’s important to consult with your gynecologist regarding massage therapy.
- Cardiovascular issues: If you have serious cardiovascular problems, such as high blood pressure, heart disease, or thrombosis, a massage might have undesirable effects. It is important to inform your therapist about these issues.
- Cancer and chemotherapy: Cancer patients should consult with an oncologist to determine whether a massage is appropriate. Some types of massage may be contraindicated during cancer treatment.
- Recent surgical procedures: After surgery, you should wait for healing and consult with your doctor to see if a massage is safe.
- Allergies to oils or scents: If you have allergies to certain oils or scents, inform your therapist to avoid any unpleasant reactions.
- Mental health conditions: If you have acute mental health conditions, such as severe depression, anxiety, or panic attacks, a massage might cause uncomfortable reactions. Consult with a psychotherapist or psychiatrist about this option.
- Numbness or loss of sensation in the massage area: If you have numbness or loss of sensation in the area where you want the massage, the therapist could unknowingly cause further damage.
